Lisbon Nightlife, Bars and Clubs

Bairro Alto | High Neighborhood

After midnight, Lisbon's Bairro Alto lets it all hang out. One of Lisbon's oldest quarters, the Bairro Alto is a densely packed zone of winding streets alive with the drinking, dancing and revelry that get started after midnight and last until dawn. Grab a cocktail and take it to the street (legal in Lisbon) and explore the area's prolific selection of music and ambiance.

Alto Bar
Travessa dos Fiéis Deus, 33-31, Lisbon Portugal
One of the many bars in Bairro Alto serving take-away drinks for consumption in the street, Alto Bar is the spot for fruit slushees made in the Alto Bar's vintage crushed ice machines.

Finalmente | At Last
Rua de Palmeira 38, Lisbon Portugal
A popular Lisbon gay nightclub in the crowded Bairro Alto, Finalmente caters to the late night (Finalmente opens at 1am) crowd looking to see drag performances on the small stage and dance until dawn.

Pavilhão Chinês | Chinese Pavilion
An offbeat mainstay of Bairro Alto, Pavilhão Chinês is a funky, mellow Bairro Alto bar for conversation. Toy soldiers and kitschy items decorate the walls at this popular Lisbon hang out.

Quatro Estaciones | Four Seasons
Rua da Barroca, 60A, Lisbon Portugal
A quiet haven in the boisterous Bairro Alto nightlife district, Quatro Estaciones is located up the steep hill from the epicenter of Bairro Alto's raucous nightlife.

Alcântara Docks | Alcântara Docks Neighborhood

Along the Tagus River, the once dilapidating Alcântara Docks were revitalized in the 1990s as part of Lisbon's process of self-renewal. The area is now home to some of Lisbon's hippest and most expensive nightclubs.

Blues Cafe
Rua Cintura do Puerto do Lisboa 3-4, Lisbon Portugal
An unpretentious spot for hip-hop and house on the Tagus River. Located in a tavern-like setting and serving simple Portuguese fare, the Blues Club is popular with the 30s crowd looking to get away from the sophisticated mayhem of Kapital and Lux.

Kapital
68 Av. 24 de Julho, Lisbon Portugal
On the Tagus River, the Kapital is one of Lisbon's most popular, and expensive, nightclubs (covers can go as high as $58 on weekends). Well-heeled Lisbon clubbers dance and drink on Kapital's three floors.

Lux
Av. Infante D. Henrique, Santa Apolonia, Lisbon Portugal
Ultra-modern and hip, Lux is a sleek Lisbon nightclub located in a converted warehouse on the Tagus River opens late. Hipsters will love the chandelier made from wire and tampons.

Fado Houses

The stirring, melancholy music of Portugal, Fado, is still performed in the evenings in restaurants, or "Fado Clubs," across Lisbon. Many of Lisbon's most popular Fado Clubs are located in the Bairro Alto and Alfama districts.

Clube de Fado | Fado Club
Rua de S. João da Praça, 94, 1100-521 Lisbon Portugal
In center of the Alfama district, just down from the Lisbon Cathedral, Lisbon's Clube de Fado features live Fado music nightly and traditional Portuguese cuisine in a Moorish-styled restaurant.

Senhor Vinho
18 Rua do Meio a Lapa, Lisbon Portugal
Located in the Bairro Alto, Senhor Vinho is one of Portugal's best Fado Clubs (some say Lisbon's best Fado Club), owned by the fadistas themselves and featuring excellent Portuguese fare.
